I've had several pieces in progress, but I finally put the finishing touches on one last week. This is a painting of my friend Efrain and a model named Courtney who lives near my studio outside of Nashville.

I wanted to send this one to the G40 Art Summit in D.C. with the other two paintings I sent, but it wasn't dry enough last week.

I know I'm biased because it's my own artwork, but the photo doesn't do this one justice. The thick impasto used for Courtney and Allison forges a rich texture that entices you to run your fingers over the canvas.
This is another very dark (mood) painting. I scratched several things into the background before I finished Beth and ended up keeping Last Dance. This seems appropriate with what's left of the dress and the fact that she's looking up from the floor. Hope you like it. John

I finished and installed this large piece last week. Here's a shot with Monty, the dog in the painting. He's a 100 lb Great Pyrenees.

"One Kiss", 30" x 40" oil on canvas
I finished this one in November. I had scratched a lot of text into the background before I painted Susan. You can still see a little of "open the door baby", but "one kiss" was the only text completely intact and ended up being the title for this piece. I think this one really came together well. Susan's imploring stare, the dark shadows, and the harsh impasto I use for flesh all worked in unison to create the moody feel this painting gives off.
